Since this year we're adding a 6k race in Indiana, we have a whole new team of folks, there in the mid-west on board with making sure our Indiana 6k is a success. I love the way our teams come to be. Generous people step forward wanting to be part of what COME UNITY is all about. They get fired up and bring their gifts and abilities to the table. They bring new ideas, fresh excitement and a zeal to see COME UNITY succeed. Our Indiana team is composed of an eclectice group of folks, each with their own passion for what we're all about. It's neat to see them talk things thru and get to work.
When people get on board and take ownership of an area of what we're about it feels like something "we" are doing, instead of something that "they" are doing. I notice it in the verbage when people talk with me about COME UNITY. "We should...." or "I'd like us to...." they say, with that excitable twinkle in their eyes. Those are the on board folks. Those are the ones we're grateful for. Is that where you're at with COME UNITY? Are you part of the family that claims us as your own? Thank you to those who are. And if you're not there yet, come join us. Let us know you'd like to be more involved. You'd like to join us in saving the world. Have a few good ideas? We'd love to hear them and make COME UNITY happen so you can play your best part.

It’s official. COME UNITY took a few baby steps forward on establishing as a 501(c)3 organization. And, right off the bat they were asking for our Board of Directors and their estimated hours devoted to COME UNITY per week. COME UNITY has a Board of five members, a team that has been committed to who we are and what we’re all about for years now. They are different and talented, they bring beautiful and unique things to the table, they are passionate about seeing two communities change... Continue reading...

Happy 2011 everyone!
It's been just over a month since we returned from Africa, and COME UNITY's got a lot of things in motion. The other day I was stuffing envelopes and mailers with photos and letters from COME UNITY's 15 sponsor girls to their generous sponsors, and I was trying not to get overwhelmed. One sponsor girl writes, "I really don't know how to thank you because of your kindness towards me. I'm 100% happy and sincerely wish you good fortune as you sponsor me and may God shower... Among lots of other things, I have been hard at work this week on The Cattle Campaign. Maybe a cow is just what you wanted for Christmas. :) Yesterday I visited Kitui. Met Eric who sunk a borehole on his father's property, and has done an amazing job cultivating the land. He has three greenhouses, and the tomatoes and peppers are thriving! He has cows and mangoes and paw paw that we call papaya. They are revolutionizing the way their entire area does farming, and it was quite a learning... Continue reading...

Last week was about Plan B. The best thing you can bring on a trip like this is flexibility. Not the doing the splits kind but the go with the flow kind. The government arrived in pekot, where we were supposed to spend our week, to disarm the people of the guns they have to prevent cattle rustling. No Pekot for us. We visited two projects of HACA’s, one in Thicka and one in the Kibera slum. In Thicka we saw an amazing example of a well run center for orphans. The place is now mostly ... Continue reading...

we didn’t eat turkey on thanksgiving day. we were greeted at our ‘home’ in Ilbissil with a grand, “Happy Thanksgiving!!” when pastor Kiroka came to pick us up. we had a busy day planned. it was a thanksgiving day I will never forget, mostly because of the people I met. And also for the things I felt thankful for as we took pastor and his family out to dinner that evening. our first stop was to a rescue house. many young girls in Masai culture are married off to an elder husband-... Tomorrow we are heading to Ilbissil. Over the next few days we will spend time surveying the finished borehole project complete with tanks, piping, and pump. But mostly we are excited to spend a few days with 15 girls that YOU have provided education for through our Girls Sponsorship Program. We’ve packed your letters and a few other goodies to pass along to them (soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, maxipads, books, etc). We will spend days checking up on each one, talking with her, findin... The days pass quickly here. I can’t believe I’ve only been in Africa since Monday. It was a wonderful and quick few days with the Compassion Corps team in Uganda. Jan and Beth have been an incredible inspiration and encouragement to me, and I was excited to see them on the ground in action. They had a team of ten with them, and spent their two weeks doing medical clinics and encouraging the local church and their partners there. They recounted so many stories of sick people and the...
