dreaming big.

February 12, 2010
have you ever had a dream?  i mean, a really big dream, like taking a trip to somewhere crazy exotic, like, nepal or madagascar?  or making it big-- being on american idol, or dancing with american ballet theatre?  maybe the dream is having a family of four children, two dogs and a nice house.  ive realized how much COME UNITY is my dream.  i didn't set out to do any of this... but i am so challeged by grandeur of it all.  as we seek to climt the new heights, it feels a little scary to step out into the unknown.  but no guts no glory, our risks will be rewarded.  do i dare to dream of building 1000 water wells?  of taking two teams of folks hungry to understand life in Africa there each year?  do i dare dream to think that COME UNITY could be a job for me oneday?  that folks all around us will be inspired to help raise funds by doing what they love to do?  do i dare get excited about runs for COME UNITY, and baking competitions for COME UNITY, finshing tournaments for COME UNITY.  what about video game contests for COME UNITY or art shows for COME UNITY?  do i dare think of hosting a volunteer appreciation night for 50 volunteers, faithful and true, passionate and inspiring.  do i dare think of a staff of 5?  a website that knocks your socks off?  all the little lives in the third world who might grow up in school, drinking clean water, knowing how to grow crops, make a living, have a savings.  all the older lives who might teach younger generations about love, about caring for one another.... or about clean sanitation.  do i dare dream?  YES.  i dare to do it.  i have hope these things will come true.  i am seeking the paths to walk towards all of these, and i have a good gang around me.  i have more on the outskirts of what we're doing that have a heart to be part of all this.  i'm excited.  i challenge you to dream your biggest dreams tonight.

6k...

January 29, 2010
i'm so excited by COME UNITY lately.  our 6k is totally in the works.  we adopted 'zapevents' to handle registrations... and it feels so empowering to have an official web registration page and be taking on registrations.  come one come all.  this will be our first major event that is outside the dance realm.  i mean, we have almost completely raised funds to this point by hosting dance events.  dance is what i do.  its my passion, and returning to work this week after nearly a year off with ...

you. and Haiti.

January 23, 2010
I had high hopes of updating this blog really often.  Today I have high hopes again, so what better way to make that happen than by doing it?!  HA.  Its been a big week for COME UNITY. I'm so fired up and have a great team of people all busy working on their own piece of the puzzle to make COME UNITY happen.  Its not just mine anymore.  Its becoming theirs just as much.  And to grow CU that's exaclty it, it has to be bigger than me, bigger than just me and you.  The more we are the more we ca...

Kenya 10/17-26 2009

November 3, 2009

Kenya feels like familiar turf to me and we were anxious to meet up with our friend Charles again, and later that night head down to Ilbissil.  Leaving the airport, we were sideswiped by another car exiting the airport.  We prayed that our driver wouldn’t be taken advantage of by the police and we were thankful there wasn’t much injury or damage.

Finally in Ilbissil, we had a nice meal with Pastor John Kiroka and his family.  Sunday was the most wonderful celebration we could have i...

Uganda! 10/10-16 2009

November 3, 2009

Late Saturday night we arrived in Uganda.  Paul, our host from Watoto was there to pick us up, smiles and all, and we were happy to be in Africa.  http://www.watoto.com/  The next day, Monday, we slept in, had a nice lunch and awaited the arrival of our Generosity Water team from LA.  This team included Sol Garcia, my fundraising partner and head of Project X, who I had last seen in Kenya back in January.  It was a fun reunion.  Tuesday came and we blasted off early, headed to Gulu--- or, nor...

packing

October 5, 2009

You should see the floor of my apartment.  All the items hoping to get packed are strew about my floor so I can see them all in hopes to put some kind of organized order to them all.  Hat, sneakers, deet, meds, bandanas for the really greasy hair days, sweatshirts, headlamp.  Can’t forget the headlamp.  Wow, I feel so fortunate to be going back.  This is my third trip to Africa, first trip to Uganda.  Despite the long hard days there sometimes, the heartache, the dust, the food that I don...
