... Some of the most frequently asked questions about COME UNITY: what we do, what are our shows like, more on our work in Africa, etc.  Responses from COME UNITY's Director, Kristin Scott.

WHO'S ACTUALLY IN THE PERFORMANCE?

COME UNITY was founded as an "off season" project of the dancers of American Repertory Ballet, in NJ.  COME UNITY shows feature past and present company dancers of ARB, as well as others we know who would like to be involved with this benefit.

IS THIS BALLET?  WHAT KIND OF CHOREOGRAPHY IS IN YOUR SHOW?

An ARB COME UNITY event is a chance for company dancers to create new works.  Choreography is as unique as the dancers in the group, but mostly it takes on the shape of contemorary ballet.  Some works are on pointe, and some are not.  Some pieces are reflective of the cause we are working towards, however choreographers have free reign to create whatever they'd like.

I LOVE WHAT YOU'RE DOING. HOW CAN I HELP?

Our greatest goal is to get others excited about using what they've got to benefit people in need.  So, what do you got?  We can use people who are looking to volunteer for our events... and we'd love to help you find a way to use your talents and abilities to raise funds and awareness in your community.  The reality is, however, that financial support is the best way to help.  Some of us are able to contribute financially, and others are not.   H2(week)O is a good way to get going, and get those around you interested in what you're passionate about!  The bottom line is that we can all do something!

WHY ISN'T COME UNITY A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION?

COME UNITY is in process towards becoming a NPO.  For now, we're hunkered down under the unbrella organization of 'Compassion Corps.'  A few reasons for that are: 1, it is costly to establish a NPO.  2, we can learn from their expertise as they work in Africa and in the NPO realm.  3, we are refining our vision and not wanting to rush ahead without clear direction.  So having Compassion Corps as a fiscal sponsor is the best place for us to be.

IS YOUR WORK REFINED JUST TO AFRICA?

Nope.  We are committed to aiding communities in the third world.  Our greatest desire is to go into a community, offer them hole and love and provision and exit that community knowing they will be more self-sustaining than before we came.  However, we look at the work we're doing on the homefront in all the same ways.  On the homefront, we're committed to inspiring people to learn about life in the third world, to recognize how much we have and how much we can do when we break free from the self gratifying often greedy and materialistic lives we live.  (And we're preaching to ourselves, here.  We're in with the best of 'em.)

DO DANCERS EAT ICE CREAM?  WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE KIND OF ICE CREAM?

That is not a hard one. Yes.  And, Chubby Hubby.
